AUTHOR'S NOTES

This chapter has been labeled mature as a courtesy to the young and the faint of heart, and as a precautionary measure against DA's censors (if they even bother to pay attention to written work). In the spirit of the times, though, I chose to mark it as a warning. That way, the kiddies can still sneak in and hide under their seats during the scary parts.

The scenes with the Hanged Man are probably a little...ah...extreme for the period (though not as much as you might think; horror movies and "weird tales" of the '30s pushed a lot of envelopes), but I felt it was important to keep them as vivid as possible without veering into vulgarity. I wasn't going to pussyfoot around with what kind of guy this was, or the manner of threat he represented. I'm also a sucker for good, spooky atmosphere.
